In-House Laboratory
Our in-house lab is a vital tool we frequently use during your pet’s annual exam. Annual blood work helps us form a complete medical history of your pet to establish its baseline health. With baseline numbers, we can more easily detect subtle changes in their lab work that could indicate disease.
Tests we may include:
- Complete blood count (CBCs)
- Blood chemistry panels
- Fecal exam
- Heartworm test
- Tick-borne disease screening
- Urinalysis
- Cytology (skin tests)
- And more
Digital X-Rays
Digital x-rays greatly outperform their film predecessors. They make the process faster and safer for your pet by reducing radiation exposure and taking a crystal-clear digital picture in mere minutes. The digital file can then be quickly sent via email to you or specialists for a second opinion. We frequently use x-rays for our older patients during their annual check-ups and before surgery to assess their hearts and lungs.
Plus, we’ll use it to diagnose the following:
- Fractures and joint injuries
- Foreign body ingestion
- Abdominal obstructions
- Bladder and kidney stones
- Dental disease
- And more
Ultrasound
Ultrasound is often used in tandem with x-rays for a more complete picture of your pet’s internal structures. While x-rays give us a clear static image of your pet’s skeleton and body cavities, ultrasound gives us a live image of working organs, joints, and cavities. With ultrasound, we can even measure your pet’s blood flow to detect heart problems or blood clots.
Common issues we use ultrasound for include:
- Organ disease
- Heart problems
- Urogenital issues
- Joint injuries
- Gastrointestinal issues
- And more
